“It's not always being fast or even accurate that counts, it's being willing. I found out early that most men, regardless of cause or need, aren't willing. They blink an eye or draw a breath before they pull the trigger - and I won't.” –– J. B. Books "The Shootist"

How did you become interested in firearms training and in particular focusing on women?
It was not a hard leap at all really, in business I did a lot of training for a lot of people of diverse groups and I always loved it, seeing the light bulb come on above their heads when they got it. Additionally in the golf business at that time women were an underserved market segment that I focused on heavily. Well the same holds true in firearms and personal protection training today so it just made sense to make that our focus.

Why did you start LFT?
I could give you a lot of business double talk but the bottom line was I enjoy shooting and I enjoy imparting that skill and knowledge to others. So really, for the fun of it.

How does firearms training mesh with your past career?
Throughout my life I have always been in the knowledge business, getting paid for teaching others what I knew. Firearms training is just about the same, I learn, I know, I teach, guess you could say I have been doing it my entire life.

What benefit does your organization provide to your community?
I am not sure it is the whole community that benefits but the womens segment certainly benefits from a learned confidence, that they do not have to depend on someone else to protect them, that they are capable and able to defend themselves and not become a victim. This country is too full of "victims" today and I am just trying to rectify that one woman at a time.

What one thing do you consider critical in your method of teaching?
That is a tough question really, obviously you want your student to learn and enjoy and that means putting the rounds down range on target. I guess really the most critical thing I can impart is that firearms used in an irresponsible manner can be dangerous, so really if you learn one thing from me it would be Safety, Safety, Safety.
